Character, Citizenship and Compassion
Community of Compassion
Compassion is the humane quality of understanding the painful feelings of another and wanting to aid, spare or do something about it. Qualities of compassion are patience and wisdom; kindness and perseverance; as well as warmth and resolve. Compassion is the foundation for our school culture as every TITAN epitomizes kindness, caring and a willingness to help others at all times. We model ‘doing the right thing even when no one is looking’.
We are the really BIG school with a really BIG heart!
Character Counts
At Harry Ainlay School, Character Counts! Staff and students strive to exemplify a culture based on character and positive citizenship within our school and in the community. Through the creation of a safe and inclusive environment in which exceptional character is modeled, recognized and celebrated, students demonstrate a dedicated focus to their learning. Research shows that when students become an intrinsic part of their environment, they will take a greater role in their responsibilities to achieve.
An important and vital aspect of making character connections is to educate all stakeholders. We are powerful role models whether we realize it or not and because of that, we have a responsibility to our students to model positive character traits in all we do. Our actions, reactions and decisions will directly mold the actions, reactions and decisions of our students. The positive language of character is a powerful and effective communication tool. Character does not happen in isolation; it requires a community effort and a sense of belonging. We are committed to carry on with this important work in our goal to graduate citizens of character.
At Harry Ainlay School, we are active learners who embody six foundational character traits:
- Fairness
- Forgiveness
- Honesty
- Integrity
- Respect
- Responsibility
We focus on these virtues through discussions, teachable moments and modeling acceptable behaviour. We also make valuable connections with community members as Character Counts comes alive every day in our school.
In all things excellence!
